Winter Shoe Essentials
Well hello there! It has been awhile since I sat down and wrote a post for the good ‘ol blog. I know that everyone has said this, but December flew by, and I really tried to make an effort to be more present this holiday season. Now that the holiday season is past, I am feeling rejuvenated about my 2020 plans for this little web space!
January is a weird month for shopping. Many of us are pretty shopped out from the holidays, and focused on decluttering for the new year. As I sat down to think about blog plans for the upcoming month, I decided now is a great time to talk about the building blocks of our closets…the basics!
This month, I will be focusing on closet staples. Let’s kick it off with one of my favorite categories – shoes! Today I am sharing my winter shoe essentials. Keep in mind, I live in NY so these may not be suitable for winter in the south. Although, I hope my Florida friends can still find some inspiration here!
Before we get started, I want to mention that many of these shoes don’t fall within the “affordable” category. I have mentioned this several times before, but a good sturdy winter shoe is something I am willing to splurge on. If you live in the northeast or midwest, you know winter can be brutal. The salt, snow, and slush all do a number on your shoes. During the winter, I look for weatherproof shoes that will last me more than one season!
Winter Shoe Essentials
Hunter Boot/Rain Boot // a great shoe for multiple seasons! I wear these during the fall, winter, and spring. I especially like wearing them in the winter when I take Bailey for a quick walk around the neighborhood. Hunter boots run TTS in my opinion.
UGG Boot/Sherpa Boot // A staple in my closet since 2005. No matter how hard I have tried, I cannot part with this boot. You just cannot beat the warmth! I would size up a half size!
Sorel Boot // I would say that any winter boot will suffice, but I think that Sorel’s are a category all on their own. It took me years to bite the bullet due to the steep price tag, but I finally did last year and will never look back. Take it from someone who has lived in a snowy climate for 30 years, these are essential if you can afford it. Size up a half size.
Tall Leather Boot // I own two leather boots in black and cognac. I recommend sticking with a good neutral here. This is another shoe where if you can afford true leather, I would highly recommend it. I have had my cognac Tory Burch boots for 4 years and they still look brand new. Blondo is a great brand if you are looking for a weather proof boot!
Ankle Boot // I have a ton of ankle boots, but my favorite for winter are my Blonde Booties. They are a true leather, and weatherproof. Size up a half size.
Slippers // I would be lying to myself if I said this was not my most worn winter shoe. Linked my favorite pair here! They are TTS.
Honorable Mentions
These are the shoes that I debated over, and ended up feeling they weren’t essential for MY closet. I am still including them in the post because they do get a lot of milage in my closet, and I would still consider them worth the price.
OTK Boots // I am still not 100% sold on the over the knee boot trend. Recently, I purchased a cheaper pair at Target to try and I have to say I do like them. I wouldn’t recommend spending a fortune on this style though, because I feel like options are limited in how you can wear them.
Sneaker // Including these because I feel like everyone should have a decent sneaker in their closet. I don’t wear sneakers often in the winter due to the cold, but if I am running a quick errand I will throw them on. New Balance is my favorite brand!
