What I read in March and April 2022
I am back with another book round up! March was a really weak reading month for me, we were on vacation and then I was sick for pretty much half the month so reading was not a priority. Anyway, I decided to combine the past two months into one post. I read 6 more books in March and April, definitely a slower pace for me. My reading genres were all over the place and included romance, fantasy, science fiction, and psychological thrillers. Keep reading for a summary of what I read in March and April 2022.
Something Wilder by Christina Lauren 2/5
I received an advanced reader copy of this new book courtesy of NetGalley (thank you!). I loved the last book I read by Christina Lauren, which was The Unhoneymooners, so I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy it. It is a second chance love story trope set on a ranch in Utah. There is also a treasure hunt involved. I personally felt like the story line was really forced and a bit far fetched at times. The book is set to release on 5/17, and while it did not work for me, it might be worth checking out if you are a fan of this popular author duo!
The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth 4/5
I really enjoyed this one! The storyline follows two sisters, Rose and Fern. Fern is neurodivergent and lives a carefully structured life. Rose, neurotypical, has worried about Fern’s well-being for years and insists she knows what is best for her. They find themselves tied up in a web of lies that is becomes difficult to differentiate what is real and what was made up. If you read Elenor Oliphant is Completely Fine and enjoyed it, you will love this book. It is a page turner that will keep you wondering about the truth until the very end.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir 3/5
This book took up most of my reading time in April. I stepped out of my reading comfort zone and tried out this science fiction story as it was on several ‘best of’ lists for 2021. The story follows Ryland Grace, a science teacher who suddenly finds himself becoming an astronaut, as he embarks on a last chance mission to save Earth and human life. I had really high hopes for this one, and it started out really strong for me. However, about 30-40% of the way through the science terminology got to be a little too much for me. The ending did redeem the book for me slightly, but it wasn’t the 5 star read I hoped it would be. I will say, I apparently am in the minority with this because many of you messaged me saying this was one of your favorite books!
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas 4/5
I was not planning on reading this in April, but after my Project Hail Mary disappointment I needed an ACOTAR pick-me-up. This is technically the fourth book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, but it is listed is book 3.1. It is a short novella that is meant to bridge Feyre’s story with Nesta’s, which will be covered in the next book in the series, A Court of Silver Flames. Many people told me not to bother with this book, as it doesn’t add much to the story line, but I found it to be delightful. I would liken it to a holiday special in your favorite TV series. Not a lot happens, but it was an easy read.
My friends who love psychological thrillers, this book is for you! The story is set in the fictional small town of Blackdown, where a woman is murdered. It has everything a creepy small town murder would have, a smart detective, witty female lead, and LOTS of twist and turns. I personally really enjoyed how the book was narrated from three perspectives, his, hers, and the killer. Every time I thought I knew who the murderer was, I was proven wrong until the very last page.
It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey 3.5/5
I was totally influenced by bookstagram to read this one. If you are an avid romance reader, you will enjoy this. Nothing groundbreaking but I liked the characters and it was entertaining. The ending was eh, but fine. There is a second book in the series that was released earlier this year, and I plan to pick that one up as well!

Do you prefer your kindle or an actual book? I have always purchased books but I was thinking about buying a kindle.

Hi Diana! I absolutely love my kindle, I use it about 50-70% of the time when I read. I use the Libby app to check out books from my local library. Having the kindle makes it so easy to read library books since I don’t always have time to make it to the library for physical copies. That being said, I like to read at least 2-3 physical books per month, nothing beats the feel of an actual book! That probably doesn’t answer your question, but if you are a big reader and on the fence about the Kindle, I would say go for it and download the Libby app!! It was well worth the $$ for me.
