The Friday Five 5.20.22
We are back today with another Friday Five. To be honest, this week was a bit meh. It started off with the news of the horrific shooting in Buffalo, our Upstate NY neighbors. JD and I have had a lot of tough conversations about racism and although they are heavy conversations, they are necessary. My heart and prayers go out to the families of the 13 victims, and today I would like to share an organization that you can donate to if you are interested. The city of Buffalo truly comes together like no other.
We are spending the weekend with family and I am looking forward to the chance to unplug. I hope you have a beautiful weekend.
Here is what I have been enjoying this week…
ONE || When Life Gives You Lemon’s Make Ice Cream flavor from Trader Joe’s
This will be my go to summer dessert. If you love lemons, you must stock up on this ice cream from Trader Joe’s. The ice cream base is so creamy and it has this amazing lemon curd swirled in with bits of shortbread. It is just delightful, trust me. Buy it and hide it from your family members.
TWO || Solo Stove
I got JD a Solo Stove for Christmas and we are just getting around to using it now that the weather is nicer. We have the Bonfire size, which is perfect for backyard fires. It gives off a good amount of heat and is truly low smoke like it claims. It is also super easy to clean, it burns the wood down to fine ash! The Solo Stove Bonfire is currently $160 off for their spring sale and would make a great Father’s Day gift.
THREE || Amazon Beckham Hotel Collection Pillows
I recently purchased these with a coupon on Amazon after letting them sit in my cart for MONTHS. They reviews were crazy good, almost 5 stars out of 184K reviews! It has only been about a week, but JD and I both agree they are amazing. I am a stomach/side sleeper and he sleeps on his back and both of us find them extremely comfortable.
FOUR || Feed Buffalo
On Saturday 5/14 a horrific mass murder occurred in Buffalo, NY inside a Tops Grocery store. The shooter was racially motivated and 13 victims lost their lives while they were doing their Saturday shopping. I am still in shock that something so truly terrible could happen to our neighbors in western NY. JD and I chose to make a monetary donation to Feed Buffalo, a black woman owned, non-profit organization. Feed Buffalo is a community pantry with healthy food options, including halal foods in the city of Buffalo. In addition to their pantry, they also provide meal delivery services to those in need and offer support with budgeting for healthy food, focusing on the single mother. You can learn more about their efforts, how to donate/volunteer, and their response to the mass shooting here.
FIVE || OLEHENRIKSON Cold Plunge Pore Mask
For the first time in a long time, my skin has been a bit angry. Admittedly, I have been indulging in foods that I know aggravate my skin (dairy, see item one on this list!). I started using this mask 1-2 times a week and I really like it so far! It contains AHA which helps loosen the skin cells that clog pores. It may be a placebo effect, but I notice an immediate difference in my skin after using this. My breakouts appear less inflamed and my skin looks brighter. Also, it is a crazy teal color which is great for scaring family members. You can check out my full skincare routine here.
