My Top 10 Spring Wardrobe Essentials
Where did March go?! Spring is on the horizon in NY and I have been busy overhauling my closet to prep for warmer weather. I know many of you in warmer climates have likely been blessed with spring-like weather already, but it is still snowing in the northeast! This past month I encountered some unexpected challenges with my health, and I am still undecided on whether I will put together a formal spring capsule wardrobe this year. But, I would like to share my top 10 spring wardrobe essentials in the meantime.
Dressing for spring in the northeast can be frustrating. The weather is unpredictable from March through May, one day it can be sunny and warm, the next day there may be snow. As a result, it is my least favorite season to dress for and I usually prefer more practical pieces that are suitable for layering. I also keep my spring wardrobe small, by June we are in full blown summer (usually) and spring becomes a brief and distant memory.
The pieces that I am going to share in today’s post are what I would consider the building blocks of my spring wardrobe. I have been saving my pennies the past year and investing in more quality pieces, with a focus on brands that are committed to sustainability. Some of these pieces may seem pricey, they are, but the quality is unmatched. I would suggest adding them to your wishlist, and I will help you out in notifying you about sales on my instagram stories! I did sprinkle in some tried and true affordable pieces as well, because there are some diamonds out there!
Here are my top 10 spring wardrobe essentials…
ABLE Merly Denim Jacket // This denim jacket is the queen of all denim jackets in my opinion. It is has a perfect lived, broken in feel, with light distressing that does not look overly causal. The jacket itself is a cotton/lyocell combination, so it is super soft to touch. You can dress this up or down and it seems to always work. It is a true investment piece that will last years in your closet. For me it was worth the cost as I can wear it for three seasons in NY. I would get your regular size in this so that you can layer underneath.
Madewell Central Shirt // The classic white button down. I have owned this for a couple years now and I love it especially in the spring and summer. Layer it under sweaters or cardigans, wear it with light wash denim for a classic look, or pair it with a dress or skirt for a casual feel. It runs big, so I would go down at least one size in this. If it is out of stock, check back later – it is an item Madewell brings back over and over throughout the year!
ABLE Maria Boxy Stripe Tee // Another new addition to my wardrobe this season. Yes, this is expensive for a stripe tee shirt, but after years and years of buying multiple stripe tees that fall apart in the wash, I decided to treat myself to a nice one this year. As I get older I have started to value quality over quantity! This specific tee is 100% organic cotton. I really enjoy the fit of this and it pairs so nicely with mid to high rise denim!
Old Navy Mid Rise Boyfriend Jean in White // I have a love-hate relationship with white denim. I LOVE wearing white denim, but I have yet to find the PERFECT pair. For now, I am sticking to more affordable brands as I continue my quest for the perfect pair of white denim. For the price, these are suitable for the spring season!
Madewell Gemma Flat in Cognac Leather // I have the old suede version of these and I love them. They are a classic shoe that will work for work or play. I find that they easily elevate an outfit and take it to the next level!
Old Navy Shaker Stitch Button Down Cardigan // I am really glad Old Navy brought this sweater back this year. I have a similar version in blush that included in last year’s spring capsule wardrobe, and I love it so much I grabbed this white color for this year. The fabric content is a little different this year, so I will keep you posted on how it wears over time, but for the price it is a good basic you can wear with multiple outfits this spring. My favorite way to wear this is fully buttoned like a pullover sweater.
ABLE Alem Crossbody // spring is going to be very ABLE heavy over here! I highly recommend any of ABLE’s bags if you are looking to add one to your wardrobe this season. They are beautiful, sustainably made leather bags. I love the lighter cognac color of this one for spring.
Madewell Kickoff Trainer Sneaker // I have a new love-affair with these sneakers. They are SO comfortable. The sole feels like you are walking on a cloud. I love that the color block design on this provides some interest while still being neutral. I feel VERY cool wearing these.
J.Crew Factory Chambray Button Down // If you have been following me for a while, this pick should come as no surprise! I have had this shirt for 5-6 years and STILL reach for it time and time again. It is like my security blanket when I feel like I have nothing to wear. Fit is true to size.
Madewell Perfect Vintage Jean // I finally found a pair of non skinny jeans that I like! The exact wash of the pair I have is almost sold out, but here is a similar in stock wash. They do have some stretch so I went down a size in these and they fit great.
I am looking forward to the warm weather and styling these pieces in the months ahead. Are you looking to add anything to your spring wardrobe this year? Or is there something you are looking forward to this season? Let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear!
