Spring Layers in Syracuse
It’s hard to believe that I am writing a post about spring style while it is snowing outside. Is anyone else experiencing crazy weather? Spring is typically a short season in Syracuse, NY but this year I feel like it is never going to get here. I am ready to put away the winter coat, but unfortunately the weather is just not cooperating. If you live in the northeast, like me, then you probably have figured out that layering pieces of your wardrobe is the easiest way to get through the unpredictable spring season. Today, I am going to share a few key pieces in my wardrobe that will be on repeat for the next month or so! These are all neutral basics that you can layer with almost anything in your wardrobe.
The White Oxford Shirt
If you don’t have a basic white oxford in your closet, I highly suggest picking on up this spring. This is a timeless classic that I remember wearing when I was a teenager! Button downs are always great for layering, but I love the clean, crisp look of a white oxford. I styled both a long and short sleeve top with several different items in my closet. I love the way it looks tied over dresses, an easy way to warm up an outfit that us northerners would freeze in this April!
The Denim Jacket
I recently purchased this distressed denim jacket and I am not sure what took me so long. I love the way this one fits on me, and it is a perfect addition to my spring wardrobe. There isn’t much more to say about the versatility of this piece, it goes with pretty much everything!
The Chambray Shirt
This is another timeless classic that I always have in my wardrobe. I wear it all year round, but I especially love how I can style it in the springtime. Like the white oxford, it can be worn alone, over a white tee, or over a dress. I would invest in a good quality one if you can. The one I have is from J.Crew and it has lasted me for years!
The Lightweight Cardigan
As much as I would love to pack up the sweaters, a lightweight cardigan is pretty much essential for spring in New York. I like this striped cardigan from Old Navy, its lightweight and oversized. Stripes are definitely on trend this spring, and this was an affordable way to integrate them into my spring wardrobe.
The Field Jacket
I cannot say enough good things about this piece. Out of all the items listed, this one has probably gotten the most use in my closet. The one I have is from Old Navy three years ago, but they have a newer version out this spring. It also comes in blush pink, which I absolutely love. I prefer the green color because it pulls together my neutral wardrobe effortlessly.

Thanks for the styling tips. I love the basics and neutrals you have going on here. I am on my journey to minimalism right now so I am in search of solid basics that I can wear year round, and I love these suggestions. They’d be perfect for my new wardrobe. (I currently have tons of colorful crazy looking clothes, but now I’d prefer to only have basics–white, denim, etc. Luckily I already have a green utility jacket from Old Navy too, also from a couple of years ago!)

I usually wear a size 27 in skinny jeans, or a 4. I did size down to a 2 in these pants though because they are super stretchy! They are on mega sale right now!
