4 Easy Ways to Spring Clean Your Life
After a very long winter here in the Northeast, spring has FINALLY arrived. This past weekend we had our first stretch of sunny, spring weather. For me, the arrival of spring means it’s time to get organized and set goals. Most people do this in the new year, but there is something about blooming flowers, bright blue skies, and sunshine that motivates me to start over. Today I am sharing four ways I plan to spring clean my life this season.
Declutter
The most obvious task when spring cleaning your life is decluttering. JD and I moved into our current home two years ago, and I am ashamed to admit we STILL have boxes that are unpacked. You better believe those boxes are shoved in the back of our closets. Out of sight, out of mind, right? This spring I am going to go through each room in our home and declutter our space from items that we no longer use. My kitchen cupboards are overflowing and in desperate need of re-organization and purging. To me, a clean home provides me with a good canvas to work on having a clean mind.
One of my favorite ways to declutter is to purge my closet and donate, or sell, items that I no longer wear. Right now, I am working on re-vamping my closet to include more practical, versatile pieces, so I have been chipping away at this closet declutter project for a couple of weeks already. If you haven’t read “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo, I highly recommend it. I use her method to help me organize and get rid of items in my closet that do not “bring my joy”. Also, if you are looking to make some extra money in the process, sell your gently used items on online consignment shops. I use Poshmark, and You can view my Poshmark closet here.

Re-Evaluate Your Health and Fitness Goals
If you are anything like me, your health and fitness goals that you made in January have probably gone out the window by now. With more than half of 2018 left, there is still time to spring clean your fitness goals! In January, JD and I did the Whole 30, which was a great reset after the holidays. While I don’t think we will get that strict about our diet again anytime soon, I can probably give up the weekly pizza deliveries (although I am pretty sure our delivery guy would wonder if something happened to us), and dipping into the candy drawer at work.
My spring cleaning health and fitness goals include getting more sleep, drinking more water, and maintaining a fitness schedule. I plan to integrate barre workouts, cardio, and possibly BBG into my workout plan. If anyone has tried BBG, leave a comment down below on your tips for survival!
Get Inspired
With the help of social media and the internet, there are so many ways that we get inspired to be the best version of ourselves. This year I am making it a priority to spring clean my mind. I love hearing and reading about other women and their journeys to self-love, happiness, and success. This spring, I purchased several non-fiction books, by female authors, and can’t wait to dive in and find inspiration through their experiences. I plan to do a full review blog post on this!
Podcasts are also one of my favorite resources for inspiration. I recently listened to a 4-part mini-series on Social Self Care, by The Simple Show. If you have some extra time, I highly recommend you listen to Tsh and Haley’s perspective on social self-care. They focus on the importance of self-care for the greater good. Meaning, when we take care of ourselves, we are better parents, spouses, friends, neighbors, and better members of society. Some topics they discuss are relationships, stewardship, and moral imagination.
Set a Budget
Over the past year, I have become super conscious of my finances and whether or not I am getting the most out of my dollar. This likely comes along with planning a wedding, and the idea that my financial wellness is something that will now affect my future husband. I always have a loose budget for groceries, gas, utilities, and entertainment. This allows me to be more mindful of areas that I may be overspending.
Spring clean your finances by going through your expenses and identifying possible areas of overspending. JD and I discovered recently that he had been paying for a monthly gym membership for over a year that he completely forgot about! We also cut cable about a month ago, and have been exclusively watching Netflix and Hulu. If you are looking to keep some pennies in your bank account this spring, cutting cable is a good way to start saving. Take the time you spend watching television and get outside and enjoy the sunshine!
Take a list with you to the grocery store. I find that I spend much less when I do this, and we tend to waste less food at home due to spoiling, which is a double win for savings!
What are some ways you are planning to spring clean your life? What products, apps, and resources do you use to set yourself up for success, think positively, and love yourself? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

Love this! I’ve been working on decluttering and preparing myself since we’re expecting our first baby any day now (due date is in 10 days!). It has been so good for me mentally. I definitely want to do it more often!

Podcasts are one of my favorite ways to get inspired too! They’ve helped me find my passion for healthy food, wellness, and helping people! Also, I desperately need to declutter my closet. Like, bad. Thank you for the inspo!

Wow! What a great post! Spring Cleaning your life! I really need to go room by room again too. We did this about a year and a half ago… and its time to do it again! I have actually started working on the health end of things… I started a group a few weeks ago on FB called Thirty For Thirty and we do 30 minutes of exercise a day for 30 days and just drop in each day and share how its going. Its been transformational for me who hadn’t consistently exercised in months. And the group inspires each other. I also at the launch of that gave up diet soda and replaced with water. That is a big deal too so now I am just drinking water and coffee. But the housekeeping, finances and reading are all areas I need to tackle as well. Really great post.

I saw on your blog that you started the Facebook group, I think that is so awesome. I was part of a Facebook group when I was doing the Whole 30 and it was so helpful having people to follow along with and motivate you. Good luck with everything! I will be rooting for you!

Informative and helpful. Spring cleaning is one of those things I know I need to do but push it aside often. Thanks for the push and encouragement.

Great advice on spring cleaning your life…often times we just limit spring cleaning to our house, when in reality it’s probably more beneficial to focus on yourself! Thanks for sharing!

I am always more motivated as the weather gets warmer as well. Decluttering the house is definitely on my to do list as I’m planning a yard sale here soon! I love listening to motivational books on my Libby app.

We don’t have spring here but these are the things I started doing in my life only recently. Whenever I clen an area in the house, I throw away things we don’t use or need anymore. There’s still a lot of things I need to sort through but glad we don’t have as much stuff as we used to. We moved like 5 or 6x in the past 8 years or so and we’ve already gotten rid of majority of what we used to own. Thanks for this, I could use some more ideas.
