My 2020 Intention
This year, I am trying something new and am going to set an intention for the next 12 months. My hope is that this will help me stay motivated and focus on my 2020 goals. In 2019, I really focused on my mental health and I feel like I really did a good job with this. So, while I plan to continue to make my mental health a priority, I want to now shift the focus to improving my accountability.
Last year, I read several books by Gretchen Rubin, who focuses on how to achieve happiness based on your personality tendency. You can learn more about Gretchen’s Four Tendencies here. According to Gretchen’s quiz on personality, I am an obliger. This means that I have no trouble staying accountable to others, but I struggle when it comes to being accountable to myself. After discovering this, everything made so much sense. I am awful at keeping up with daily habits or promises that I make to myself. I closed out 2019 by reading her book, Better Than Before, which breaks down how to make, and keep up with, daily habits based on your tendency.
So, my intention this year is to improve my accountability to myself by keeping up with daily habits. There are so many things that I wish I could do everyday. Drink more water, read, get outdoors (even in the winter), make my bed, do laundry, etc. These things may seem pretty trivial, but I know that I function better when they are done.
One thing I plan to do, is to create some kind of daily tracker or to-do list on my iPad. I have always been a list person. If I start including my daily habits in my to-do list, I am more likely to do them. There is something so satisfying about crossing off an item on a list once its done. As an obliger, having a sense of accountability to my to-do list may be the key to success!
I am looking forward to kicking my habits up a notch in 2020! I would love to know what your intentions are for the upcoming year. Here’s to a happy and healthy year ahead!
