Flying with a One Year Old – What to Bring
Are you flying with a one year old or toddler soon and wondering what to bring? Here is a list of all the items I found to be most helpful and/or entertaining for our one-year old daughter during our recent flight!
I never travel without hand sanitizer! Infants and toddlers LOVE touching everything in sight. These alcohol-free hand sanitizer wipes were perfect for Kennedy and made it super easy to clean up all her food messes while traveling.
This toy is always a hit for us at home and now when traveling. The suction cups stick perfectly to the tray table on the airplane and it is endless fun to pull them on and off. They are also fun to squish and chew on. Bonus – they are silicone and easily washable!
These are the best snack containers that we have tried so far. The flaps on the top make it easy for little hands to reach in, while also preventing spills.
Skip Hop Portable Changing Pad
This is my number one travel item recommendation for a one year old or toddler. It is basically a changing pad clutch that also holds diapers and wipes. I kept this in the diaper bag and it was so much easier carrying this to the bathroom with me than fumbling with the full diaper bag in a crowded airport bathroom.
This was a new toy I got for our trip and it was a hit! This one kept our daughter entertained the longest during the flight. She loved undoing the ties and zippers. Younger children may have a hard time with some of the buckles, but they will love watching you do it and trying it themselves! This one also comes with velcro letters that are great for keeping busy!
You can find these at most dollar stores. They are a cheap way to entertain during travel!
I was a skeptic about this at first, but post-it notes were actually a suggestion from one of you. Kennedy had a blast sticking and unsticking these from the window and table.
Hearing Safe Wireless Headphones
We did not use these as much as I anticipated, but I am still glad I brought them along. Prior to our flight, we downloaded some sesame street videos on the iPad as a last resort for entertainment on the flight. Since I didn’t want to disturb other passengers with the noise, I wanted to have some hearing safe headphones to use. We didn’t end up using the iPad much on the flight, only a few minutes one way and she did keep them on. They keep the sound below the recommended WHO guideline, which is great. I am sure we will use them in the future as they are adjustable in size, bluetooth and the ear cushions are very soft and comfortable.
We love these! They are washable and seriously indestructible. Kennedy has a few at home that she has chewed on, crumpled pages, stomped on, tried to rip and they are still in near-perfect condition. We bought some new ones she has never seen for the flight and they are so thin that they take up minimal space in your carry on.
Diaper bag backpacks will always reign supreme in my mind when compared to the shoulder bag alternative. The one we have holds a TON and I have yet to find one I like better. Having the backpack option will free your hands to hold your child (or carry more stuff!).
