The classic black legging. It’s everyone’s favorite go-to wardrobe staple when it comes to comfort. We all own them, yet for whatever reason so many of us question whether or not they are actually ‘pants’ and struggle when it comes to styling them. Today I am going to show you 40+ outfits I have put together with my black leggings over the years, along with some tips + tricks on how to take them to the next level!

My Favorite Black Leggings

I have 3 pairs of staple black leggings, which I will link for you below. These are the 3 pairs you will seen featured repeatedly in this post!

1. SPANX Faux Leather Leggings – one of my best clothing investments to date. I wear these so much that when I became pregnant I instantly bought the maternity style. They are pricey, but they are a bit more elevated and you can dress them up or down!
2. Aerie High Gloss Legging – This pair has a subtle sheen to them, and they add a little something extra when compared to a flat black legging.
3. Lululemon Align Leggings – Another investment piece, but I have definitely gotten my money’s worth with these. After years of buying poor quality black leggings that are see through, or rip on the seams, I chose to invest in a couple pairs of these and don’t regret it! If you take care of them, they will last years. Also, I have been able to wear my regular size all through pregnancy (I am 35 weeks) and they are still super soft and comfortable. They come in different lengths, I have the 25″ and that is full length for my 5’2″ height.

Tips & Tricks for Styling Black Leggings

1. Make sure they are OPAQUE.
2. Show some skin – when you are wearing ankle boots or sneakers, show off about 1-2 inches of ankle. This will flatter your legs!
3. Always cover your backside.
4. Wear the proper undergarments! No panty lines here. 
5. Try to avoid wearing only fitted tops. Balance out the fitted silhouette with an oversized sweater/tunic top or layer a long cardigan or jacket to break it up a bit.
6. While we are on the topic of layering, I highly recommend doing this when styling your black leggings. It helps add more dimension and interest to your look!
7. Accessorize, experiment with patterns + textures.
