2020 Fall Capsule Wardrobe |60+ Outfits from 27 Pieces
It’s the best time of the year! Fall is here and that means it is time to reveal my 2020 Fall Capsule Wardrobe. This year, I curated a capsule collection that is a perfect mix of old and new items, that way those of you looking to add to your collection can shop exact pieces. Most of the items I am sharing today are from affordable retailers, with the exception of some investment shoes and accessories. As usual, everything I have chosen for my 2020 Fall Capsule Wardrobe is versatile and will hold up in your closet for years to come. MY 2020 FALL CAPSULE WARDROBE
When putting together a capsule wardrobe, it is important to think about the colors and patterns you want to build upon. Make sure to include some fun accent colors as well, which you can change with the season! This fall, I focused on building my wardrobe on my favorite cream and light colored neutrals. I then decided to weave some olive and rust tones, along with my favorite leopard pattern pieces for some added texture and fun.
When creating a capsule wardrobe, I always recommend thinking about how the pieces will fit into your current lifestyle. This year, since we are spending more time at home and less time out and about, I made sure that each piece was comfortable and casual. Also, most pieces would be more than appropriate for those work from home zoom calls!
There are a total of 31 pieces in my capsule, and I created 60 outfits to share with you today. Honestly, I could have kept going, but I had to cut myself off because this blog post was already so long. That being said, LETS GET TO IT!
OUTERWEAR + LAYERS
LIGHTWEIGHT UTILITY JACKET // (XS) This was a great find from a recent Old Navy try on. Fits a bit oversized, would size down if between sizes.
DENIM JACKET // (S) a must have in my personal wardrobe – I wear this 3/4 seasons a year!
ACCENT CARDIGAN (OLIVE) // (XS) I usually gravitate towards rich colors in the fall, but for whatever reason this season I am loving olive green. This is a color you could easily carry into winter and spring! Fits oversized, size down if between sizes.
NEUTRAL CARDIGAN 1 (CREAM) // (XS) A cream colored cardigan in your closet will work ALL YEAR ROUND. If you don’t own one already, I would consider it! Fits oversized, size down if between sizes.
DETAILED CARDIGAN // (S) I chose to include another cream cardigan because this one is so versatile. You can style it as a top when it is fully buttoned, or as an open cardigan.
NEUTRAL CARDIGAN 2 (COGNAC)// (S) this cardigan is a repeat offender from last year’s fall capsule wardrobe. I got so much use out of this last year, I decided to bring it back.
TOPS
NEUTRAL TUNIC SWEATER // (S) perfect for leggings!
PATTERN SWEATER (LEOPARD) // (M) Of course I had to include my favorite print in my capsule this fall! I went up two sizes in this top on purpose for a more oversized fit. If you prefer a more fitted look, your true size or one up would be just fine!
ACCENT CREWNECK SWEATER (OLIVE) // (S) I actually have this sweater in two colors, and decided to include the ‘olive heather’ shade in my capsule to go along with the green theme. This is a great, affordable, cotton sweater. I have the rust color as well, which you can see in my recent Target try on, and will likely wear that one often this fall too!
CHAMBRAY BUTTON DOWN // (S) Everyone needs a good chambray in their closet. This is another piece that has lasted me years. I recommend investing in this item. J Crew has the best quality for a reasonable price. I have tried several others, and they just don’t compare. I have linked the exact one I have!
LONG SLEEVE STRIPE TEE // (S) another item that will go a long way in your closet, this one has great length too for leggings.
NEUTRAL LONG SLEEVE BASIC // (S) A plain off white tee shirt. No explanation needed here. You likely already have this or something similar laying around!
ACCENT COLOR TEE (RUST) // (S) these are my favorite basic cotton tees, I have them in several colors and they last!
STRIPE TEE // (S) I loved the brown/rust colored stripes in this one, but a simple black/white or navy/white will do!
BASIC WHITE TEE // (S) another Target favorite, this one has a more drapey fit.
PATTERN SHORT SLEEVE BLOUSE (SIMILAR LINKED) // (XS) This is an old pattern blouse that is sold out, but I linked this years print for you.
BASIC LAYERING TANK // (S) trying something different this year with a satin/lace finish. Any basic white tank will do though!
PATTERN TANK // (XS) Brought this one back again this fall! One of my favorites from last year and it is still available to purchase!
BOTTOMS/DRESSES
BLACK WASH DENIM // (FIT TTS) I love black denim in the fall especially! It pairs really well with the rich neutrals in the fall.
DARK WASH DENIM // (FIT TTS) Another item you probably already have in your closet! Dark wash jeans are definitely a wardrobe essential for me in the fall/winter.
FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS // (SIZE UP ONE) go up one size in these due to the compression. Featuring the more affordable option this year, but I love my SPANX ones as well. I have an entire blog post dedicated on how to style these.
BLACK RIB KNIT DRESS // (XS) This one is selling quick for good reason! It is a great casual black dress that will be perfect for layering this fall. Fits a bit large, would size down one if between sizes.
SHOES + ACCESORIES
NEUTRAL BOOTIE (TAUPE) // (SIZE UP 1 SIZE) I purchased these during the Nordstrom Sale last month. I love the light taupe color and that the cut out on the side is still high enough that you can wear no show socks.
BLACK BOOTIE // (SIZE UP 1/2 SIZE) these are my all time favorite black booties that I have raved about for 2+ years. They are insulated and waterproof, which means they are great for NY fall/winters.
NEUTRAL FLAT // (SIZE UP 1/2 SIZE) another KMM LIFESTYLE staple! If you have been here for a while, you know how much I love these.
PATTERN FLAT // (SIZE UP 1/2 SIZE) same as my neutral ones, but leopard!
CASUAL WHITE SNEAKER// mine are sold out, linking a similar option here.
COGNAC CROSSBODY // I am not a big accessory or handbag person. I would much rather invest in 1-2 quality handbags than have several cheaply made ones. This one from madewell has served me well this year, and I love the worn in look the leather has after a while. Crossbody strap is also adjustable.
